  • As you probably know by now, the LA Galaxy have repeated as Supporters’ Shield winners. Any doubt they are the best team in the league? Shouldn’t be.
  • Well, seems like the West won’t get seven teams into the MLS Cup playoffs. Ran out of fingers and toes counting all the folks that seemed sure the season would play out like that.
  • Philly sure shocked me with their win in Seattle. They have been my adopted team since their inception. I’m headed to MLS Cup next month, maybe I’ll get a chance to see them.
  • Grant Wahl: MLS’ regular season and playoff schedule structure needs fixing
    – I linked to the first part when it originally was posted in September, here are both parts.

  • I was a bit rushed getting out the annual preseason crystal ball post as many of the power rankings and conference predictions came out just hours before First Kick in Seattle. Therefore I didn’t get the chance to add some observations about this year’s guessing game.
The first thing I noticed is that in last year’s preseason power rankings three teams were unanimously picked to make the playoffs(correct) and three to miss the playoffs(ooops, San Jose fooled everyone). This year, 7 clubs are unanimous choices to finish in the top ten, while 4 teams were universally selected to finish out of the money.
The other thing was that Columbus was a pretty solid choice to be the best club in 2010, while 2011 shows a horse race between RSL, LA and RBNY. I’m in agreement with that.
